Our Artisan Commitment

Many of our offerings are handmade in India by artisans’ practicing the age-old craft of block printing. While the technique originated in Asia thousands of years ago, it is India that is credited with raising the art form. Generations of craftsmen have honed and elevated the art of hand dyeing and coloring fabrics using wooden blocks to new levels.

Hand-Carved Blocks

Every print begins with a hand-carved wooden block crafted from teak, sycamore, or pear wood. These intricate blocks can take up to two weeks to complete and require exceptional skill, patience, and attention to detail from master artisans who specialize in preserving techniques passed down through generations of craftsmanship.

A Labor of Love

Before printing begins, fabrics are carefully washed and prepared over several weeks. Each color is hand stamped onto the fabric using carved wooden blocks, with some designs requiring up to 30 separate blocks to create the finished pattern. The result is a truly handcrafted textile unlike anything produced by machines.

Natural Dye & Partnerships

We proudly partner with a small community of master craftsmen in Jaipur who preserve centuries-old printing traditions using natural plant-based dyes and eco-friendly techniques. Colors derived from pomegranate, madder root, indigo, and turmeric bring each design to life while honoring sustainable craftsmanship and cultural heritage.

Preserving a Timeless Tradition

Woodblock printing exists in a parallel universe to the modern world. It’s an art that stubbornly resists industrialization and your appreciation and patronage along with our commitment to the artisans helps keep the tradition alive. Preserving an age-old craft, supporting small artisan communities, using organics and eco-friendly techniques – sounds like good karma to us.
